In conjunction with America250, the nation’s nonpartisan celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, Elmore County 250 is an initiative created to carry out educational programming and special events in honor of this important commemoration.

Historian Allen Herrod will present the life of Revolutionary War soldier Obediah Moore on Sunday, July 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Building, located at 200 Lancaster Street in Wetumpka.
Learn about the life of Abraham Mordecai, Revolutionary War soldier, from historian Amy Milligan on Sunday, August 10 at 2:30 p.m. at the Elmore County Museum, located at 112 S Main Street in Wetumpka.
Enjoy artist Philip Juras' presentation about William Bartram on September 25 at 6 p.m. at the Wetumpka Civic Center. There will also be a month-long exhibit complementing the event at Fort Toulouse-Jackson.
Join us for an exciting presentation about Deborah Sampson, famed female Revolutionary War soldier, by Susan Tomlinson of the Daughters of the American Revolution. It will take place October 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the Elmore County Museum at 112 S Main.
Enjoy the annual Alabama Frontier Days held at Fort Toulouse - Fort Jackson Park. Learn about Elmore County's French connection at this reenactment on Saturday, November 8. Visit fttoulousejackson.org for all event dates, hours and admission fees.
Celebrate the season with a lovely 18th c. Christmas program, presented by the Elmore County Historical Society, Elmore County 250's anchor organization. It will be held on Sunday, December 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the Elmore County Museum at 112 S Main.
There's no better way to contextualize history than through the art of the period! The Elmore County 250 committee is currently working on an exciting 18th c. art exhibit and will publish details as they become available.
Family historian, U.S. Army Veteran and DAR member True Lewis will present "My True Roots to the American Revolution" on Thursday, February 26 at 10 a.m. at the Martin Luther King Building.
Historian Alex Colvin will present "Desirous of establishing permanent peace:" Alexander McGillivray, George Washington, and the Treaty of New York on Sunday, March 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the Elmore County Museum.
Revolutionary War Rarities podcast co-host Jim Griffith of the Alabama Society's Sons of the American Revolution will discuss "Revolution Rarities" on Sunday, April 12 at 2:30 pm at the Elmore County Museum.
Our local committee is currently working with America's 250 Alabama committee on a program involving the Charters of Freedom, which will include life-size replicas located in Elmore County.
Renowned musician and producer Bobby Horton, an Alabama native who has worked extensively with Ken Burns and PBS, will perform at a concert on Saturday, June 27 at 6 p.m at the Wetumpka Civic Center.

The committee’s anchor organization is the Elmore County Historical Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit, which is partnering with various entities and community volunteers to create, promote, and support this monumental celebration of our country’s independence.
